Jeff VanderMeer shared a few shots from the set of Annihilation! Those of you who have read the book might remember that it’s not exactly a cheery affair (btw, if this doesn’t describe you: go read Jeff VanderMeer’s Annihilation. You can thank us when you’re done.) but two of the films stars, Tessa Thomson and Gina Rodriguez, appear to be having a raucous time!
Somehow this makes us even more nervous.
And wait, is that the Tower Tunnel behind them?
Ohhh just looking at that, lurking behind them, while they’re so happy and laughing… well, it makes us even more excited for the film. For those who haven’t read the story, VanderMeer’s Southern Reach Trilogy follows an expedition of scientists into Area X, a mysterious no-man’s-land filled with flora and fauna that defy description… and quite possibly spell humanity’s doom. Alex Garland’s adaptation of Annihilation, which also stars Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and current boyfriend of the internet Oscar Isaac, is set for release sometime next year!
